It was a big night for a number of soccer stars from the League of Ireland in Montreal. One of them being Ashbourne native Dawson Devoy.

He pulled on the No 8 jersey to start against the Canadian team and had a great opportunity as early as the eight minute to get on the score sheet. The Bohemian captain  will certainly have brought great pride to the county and in particular in Ashbourne.

The game ended in a 1-1 draw in the friendly as World Cup tri-host nations get ready for the start of their campaign. Devoy played the first half before Liam Scales replaced him. Hallgrimsson, the manager,  can be applauded for his mindset in giving the League Of Ireland lads the opportunity to represent Ireland.

Last month Dawson Devoy pictured above presented the soccer annual awards ceremony at Ashbourne Community School.Â
