Five local national schools in south Meath have all benefitted from the local support and sponsorship by local businesses for The Hatchet Inn Tractor Run held on Sunday 3rd May Bank Holiday Weekend. This is second year in a row that all the schools were chosen. Last year was brilliant with over €12,000 raised but this year it has been well and truly surpassed raising the total to a massive €26,300!
Davina Corcoran and Sabrina Kelly are part of an eight team committee that raise money for local community needs for over the last 12 years, with the exception of the Covid pandemic. They were at The Hatchet Inn to present cheques to the respective schools told0 Meath Live they have been delighted how well this year’s event was. ”There has been fantastic support from everybody.” they told Meath Live.
They, the committee, decided to raise the funds for the schools again, as there is so many demand for funding for all of them. The local schools that benefitted included: Culmullen NS, Kilcloon NS, Moynalvey ND, Mulhussey NS and Rathregan NS. All received a cheque to the value of €5,260 each. All the money raised is collected and divided up. In total, there are over 581 children going to the respective school. So the big effort on the day benefits the children, the schools and the community. And into it all everyone has a great day too.
On the day of The Hatchet Inn Tractor and Family Fun Day there was plenty going on. From the tractor run. there was live music all day with plenty of social dancing. More funds were raised with a raffle and auction that included a Kerry signed jersey with last years All Ireland winners, a day at Gavin Cromwell yard and plenty of prizes supplied by many of the local businesses. One of the parents, Laura Murphy told Meath Live lasts years money went to a sensory walkway, the funds go to good use.
Cathal O’Shea who owns The Hatchet Inn thanked everyone who help to make the day the success it is and indeed paid a special word of thanks to the great work the committee puts in ” these things just don’t happen, they put the effort in and it’s great we can do something that benefits the local community here. They’ve raised well over twice than last year and that takes a lot of work.”
