The enduring appeal of the Irish roast and carvery

The roast and carvery dinner has long been a cornerstone of Irish dining culture and its popularity shows no sign of waning. According to Bord Bia’s Foodservice Market Insights, the Irish foodservice and hospitality market reached approximately €10.4 billion in 2025 across the island of Ireland, up from €9.8 billion in 2024.

Carvery and roast dinners remain one of the most enduring and commercially important food occasions within the Irish hospitality sector. Deeply rooted in Irish dining culture, carveries continue to attract broad consumer appeal across families, older diners, day-trippers and tourist groups, particularly during lunchtime and Sunday dining occasions. Their popularity is underpinned by strong perceptions of value, generous portions, comfort and familiarity, making them a resilient offering even during periods of economic uncertainty and changing consumer spending habits.
