There’s plenty to look forward to at Bellewstown Racecourse on Thursday night, with seven Flat races to get stuck into; two maidens, four handicaps and a QR race. Read on for a preview of and tips for the Bellewstown card, brought to you by BetBrothers.
We begin with a mile two-year-old fillies’ maiden (17.10). Violet Be Humble, Party In Vegas and Ippy are the newcomers, while Cashel Queen and Celtic Moon both finished close together on their debut last month. The two of them bring the best existing form, and might do better for the run and on the firmer ground here.
Next is a mile handicap for three-year-olds (17.40). Course and distance winner Dream Legend has been consistent so far this term and might have a chance, though is largely untested on good ground. Gavin Cromwell’s Wicklow Gap was hugely below form on unsuitable ground last time, but the resulting dip in his handicap mark could prove beneficial here.
Race three is a mile handicap (18.10). Although this is a low-grade affair, there is enough good recent form on show here to make this a tricky race to decipher. Desert Of The Sea is the sort to hold his form and he could win here, while Pinball Wizard might be able to run to a place on today’s mark.
A five-furlong two-year-olds’ maiden follows (18.41). Annie Batt and Eastern Queen are the newcomers, while Hip Hop Chrissy brings some of the best existing form, having been third of 11 on debut at Listowel. Santo Parvenue might improve for the better ground here today, and enters calculations.
The fifth race is a five-furlong handicap (19.16). Namiid won two starts ago and followed that up with a decent fourth at Navan last time. He could be competitive again, down a pound from then. Treasured Royal is also a big player but has been declared at Fairyhouse on Wednesday, so may not run.
Second to last is a mile and three quarter apprentice handicap (19.51). Maxwell Smart’s last Flat run was good and he has since run well over hurdles too, which keeps him looking promising. Jurality is a reliable type who won last time out and might get involved again, though this mark looks harder. Celestially has been in reasonably good form lately and could now be down to a workable mark.
We conclude with a mile and a half QR race (20.23). Lark In The Mornin returned to action disappointingly at the Curragh in May but could do better here. The same could be said for Intense Approach, who is given seven pounds by his rider.
