Meath County Council Arts Office is delighted to announce the launch of a new exhibition, Local Knowledge: Landscapes & Characters, by artist Ross Dillon. The exhibition showcases the beauty of Ross Dillon’s immediate surroundings in Williamstown, Mullaghey and Cakestown, County Meath, and will be on display at Toradh Gallery 2, Kells Courthouse Tourism Cultural Hub, until 31 July 2026.
In this new body of work, Ross takes viewers on a journey through the familiar places that shape his daily life, celebrating the quiet beauty of landscapes he knows intimately. His latest collection of paintings reflects the ever-changing light and shifting moods of the countryside. Returning to the same locations in different weather conditions and at varying times of day, Ross captures subtle changes in atmosphere through colour, confident mark-making and carefully balanced compositions. The result is a series of works that evoke a strong sense of place, revealing how the landscape transforms over time.

Alongside the landscapes, the exhibition also features a series of imaginative portraits and character studies. These draw on Ross’s background in animation design, bringing a strong sense of personality, narrative and stylisation to the figures he creates.
Originally from County Meath, Ross Dillon is a professional painter and animation designer. A graduate of BCFE Ballyfermot (2009), he has spent over a decade working in leading animation studios including Boulder Media (Dublin), Telegael (Co. Galway) and Lighthouse Studios (Kilkenny). Alongside his work in animation, Ross is also a published illustrator, creating work for both adult and children’s books, drawing on his experience as a background and layout artist.
As a painter, his work has featured in both group and solo exhibitions, including the Dublin Painting and Drawing Club (2024), CFCP Dublin (2011) and The Red Chapel, Kells (2024).
Presented by Meath County Council Arts Office, Local Knowledge: Landscapes & Characters, an exhibition by artist Ross Dillon is currently on display at the Toradh Gallery 2, Kells Courthouse Tourism Cultural Hub, until 31 July 2026.
