Meath County Council was proud to welcome Mayor Harold Weinbrecht, Council-member Michelle Craig and Micheál Lynch from Cary, North Carolina, to the county from Monday, 10 August to Thursday, 13 August 2026, as part of celebrations marking the 25th anniversary of the Sister City relationship between Meath and Cary.
During their visit, the delegation participated in a programme of engagements showcasing Meath’s strengths in tourism, economic development, innovation and culture. The itinerary included visits to renowned heritage sites such as Brú na Bóinne and the Hill of Tara, alongside visits to leading employers and centres of innovation including Kells Printing Works, Meta, and Navan Library, as well as an economic development meeting hosted in the Thrive Centre of Business Excellence.
Speaking about the visit, An Cathaoirleach of Meath County Council, Cllr Sarah Reilly said: “We are immensely proud of the strong friendship that has developed between Meath and Cary over the past 25 years, a partnership that has garnered valuable cultural, educational and economic connections. Mayor Harold Weinbrecht of the Town of Cary said: “It is an extraordinary honour to visit County Meath, traditionally known as the Royal County, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of our sister city relationship. Over the past quarter-century, what began as a formal partnership has blossomed into a profound, genuine friendship rooted in shared values, mutual learning, and a collective vision for our communities.”
