Gardai are investigating an outbreak of sheer vandalism at the historic Hill of Tara site.

A lot of damage was caused to the Lia Fáil or Stone of Destiny standing stone with the word, ‘FAKE’  sprayed lengthways around the four sides of the  national monument.

It’s understood the damage was caused to the stone sometime between Monday evening and yesterday morning.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information on the incident to contact Navan Garda Station.

A spokesman said, ‘Gardaí investigating criminal damage to the Lia Fail or Stone of Destiny, Standing Stone on the Hill of Tara in County Meath are appealing for information. An incident of graffiti damage was reported to Gardaí on Tuesday, 7th February, 2023.

‘It’s understood the damage was caused to the stone sometime between 5pm on Monday evening, 6th February and the early hours of Tuesday morning, 7th February.

‘Gardaí at Navan have commenced an investigation and are appealing to anyone with information to contact them at Navan Garda Station on 046-9079930 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.’
