A female has been seriously injured following a hit-and-run incident in Co. Meath in the early hours of yesterday morning.

She was struck by a car in the Frederick Street area of Ashbourne at around 1am and the vehicle failed to remain at the scene.

The woman in her 50s was taken to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown with serious injuries.

Two men, both aged in their 20s, were subsequently arrested and questioned at a Garda station in Co. Meath.

One of these men has since been released from custody without charge. A file will now be prepared for the DPP.

Gardaí say investigations are ongoing and have appealed for anyone with any information on the incident to come forward.

They particularly want to speak to anyone who was in the Frederick Street area between 12.45am and 1.30am yesterday morning and who may have witnessed the incident or may have video footage, including dash-cam.
