A leading figure in Meath SIPTU has slammed the CEO of Tara Mines owners Boliden for telling the media the mines could close permanently.

John Regan was speaking on LMFM radio and said recent comments from the Boliden boss’ beggar belief’

According to reports Boliden’s CEO has said the mine will have to close permanently if it’s not returned to profitability.

It comes as negotiations continue to return the Navan mine to full capacity, after over 600 workers were temporarily laid off 213 days ago

Regan said, ‘We are after doing five conciliation conferences with the Work Relations Committee, (WRC), and we have adjourned to consider our positions and really the parent company coming out with that statement just beggars belief.’
