Aontú Cllr Emer Tóibín has confirmed that funding for significant remedial works on a section of along the L5049, near Walterstown, has been approved.
Cllr Tóibín says.
“It is expected that 1.6 km from the junction at Lismullen road down towards the  Old Johnstown Village to Kentstown will undergo major works later on this year”.
She says “This is very welcome news as the road was in a dire condition for many years. Deep holes and crumbling road margins pose a constant hazard with many motorists revealing to me that they no longer drive along this road at night time as it is so dangerous”.

Pictured above:  Cllr Tóibín at one of many treacherous potholes on the road that would be well known to all who live and travel on it.

“There is nothing worse when you’re driving along a country road, and you get a ferocious jolt because your car has collided with or entered a very deep pothole. Correction, there is; if you have reported said potholes to the local authority many times and they  hasn’t been filled. Or it empties out a few weeks thereafter”.

“It is a very busy road used by local farmers and the growing community. It is wholly unacceptable that people have had to try and traverse such a long stretch of road in a particularly hazardous condition for so long. It’s made all the more dangerous at nighttime when two cars attempt to pass each other, as that is invariably when they won’t be able to avoid the deep potholes”.

“I communicated their concerns to the engineers in both Ashbourne and Navan and to the Transport Director in Meath County Council and I’m delighted to say that this has served to prioritise the road ,which will be fixed as part of the 3-year capital funding for Meath. In the meantime, the local Engineer has confirmed to me that the potholes will be filled in from next week commencing 26th of February.
