As the unexpected resignation of  Leo Varadkar, earlier today there will be plenty of speculation as to why ? There will be political debate in all parties as to the implications. One thing that can be said he was never a man to hold back and voice his opinion, which deserves respect. Locally he was always supportive of Helen McEntee who stood to his left as he made his announcement. They all looked visibly taken aback by Leo’s news today.

Speaking this afternoon, Ian Talbot, Chief Executive of Chambers Ireland responded to the resignation of An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar TD saying:

“With the passing of time it can be easy to overlook the crises that threatened our economy and society and the enormous changes that have taken place in Ireland since Leo Varadkar first became Taoiseach in 2017. During his tenure as Taoiseach some of his most significant achievements included successfully overseeing Ireland’s response to Covid and ensuring effective supports to businesses and employees were put in place to minimise the social and economic impact. He also played a vital role in the EU’s negotiations with the UK on Brexit and helped manage its impact on the Irish economy. In addition, his contribution to social and diversity issues have also contributed significantly to Ireland’s attractiveness for investment. Overall, his economic management of the country has helped ensure Ireland’s success as one of the most productive and competitive economies in the world.

On behalf of our members we would like to thank him for his outstanding service and to wish him every success in his future career.”
