When reviewing the division 2 league campaign, that concluded with an eight point defeat to Donegal last Saturday, management, players and supporters might do well to recall the title of a hit song for two brothers with a Duleek dad.

Oasis sang, ‘Don’t look back in anger’ and that is probably the best way to view the campaign.

Eventually after a search going back years, and featuring a large number who wouldn’t stop a 46A at a bus stop, Meath have found a reliable goalkeeper in Dunderrys Sean Brennan, the fact he can kick long distance frees is a useful bonus, importantly though Brennan has also shown he knows how to keep the ball out of the net.

Meath Live has seen goalkeeping coach Shane Supple work close up and the former I;swich Town goalkeepers handiwork is all over Brennan’s impressive displays.

Adam O’Neill has been a revelation at full back, Donal Keogan has reinvented himself as a better version of Donal Keogan and Cian McBride is improving game on game following his return to the round ball game.

Matthew Costello has been the stand out in misfiring forward line who have consistently failed to run up enough scores when dominating proceedings.

The league table doesn’t lie and this season  division 2 contained two of the stronger sides to drop down from the top tier in Armagh and Donegal, with all due respect Monaghan and Roscommon who have made the drop this time around are far more winnable games.

Of course before that comes Longford in the championship on April 7th a game Meath should win but may not as God only knows which Meath will turn up, something to be expected from a mainly young side.

Thanks to the Tailteann Cup success Meath are also in the All Ireland series something which will add to their development as a team.

In conclusion this is a young side that is getting better, is a long way from the top rank and needs to get streetwise very quickly.

We believe they will.
