It will be an new era for Nina Carberry as she will now wear the colours

of Fine Gael as she heads to Brussels. It has to be recognised as a political master

stroke to bring the well known jockey into the political field.

Coupled with TV status on Dancing with the Stars and Irelands Fittest Family,

she will now have to dance in the political fields of Europe.

In a packed field of 27 candidates it proved the importance of national recognition.

Fine Gael will be happy to have held the seat too of former Rose of Tralee status and

winner , Maria Walsh who will serve a second term.

In Trim last as tallymen were more concerned with the local elections, William Bligh

also from Trim, was busy running a survey on the tallies for Europe.

Out of 2.179 ballots in the survey he conducted he got the following statistics;

THE TOP FIVE

Nina Carberry……………….  21.2%

Peadar Tóibín………………… 17%

Barry  Cowan…………………….9.7%

Luke ‘Ming’ Flanagan………..8.8%

Michelle Gildernew……………4.3%

Ciaran Mullooly former TV reporter with RTE was on 3.4%

In a straw poll with a Meath biases it painted accurate pictures as to how things

eventually panned out.

Although Peadar Tóibín’s was not elected, he ran well with 6% of the vote to the 18th count

with 56,663 votes.

Nina Carberry ended with 98872 votes which saw Luke ‘Ming ‘ Flanagan and Barry Cowan Ff

making the quota of 113,325 and Maria Walsh FG 100,781 and Ciaran Mullooly Independent Ireland

88,177 all elected.

All the Elections are now complete but will trigger By-Elections for those that made it to Europe like

Barry Cowan FF.
