The Cathaoirleach of the Laytown-Bettystown Municipal District Cllr Paddy Meade outlined the key transport challenges for this region during a “frank and productive discussion” with National Transport Authority officials, including the chief executive, during a cross-party meeting in Leinster House. The meeting was facilitated by Independent Meath TD Gillian Toole.
Cllr Meade said he raised the following issues – Bus shelters along the N2 from Collon to Ashbourne via Slane. “Many people won’t use the service without basic shelter”, he said. Park and Ride facilities along the N2 – “These are needed especially in Slane where 30-plus cars are
parked daily on the main street, impacting local businesses”.
Expanded parking at Laytown train station – “This is necessary to reduce congestion in the village and is particularly urgent with the DART on the way”. Concerns about the Fairer Fares Scheme – “This has resulted in increased fares from Laytown. I called for these increases to be reversed immediately”.
Support for the Navan Rail Line – “There should be equal treatment of landowners during route selection. A station North of Navan is needed to serve North Meath, Cavan, Monaghan and Mid- Louth commuters”.

Active Travel in rural areas – “There should be a safe footpath between Lobinstown and Heronstown NS to allow children walk or cycle safely to school.”
The attendees at the meeting were Deputy Toole, Cllrs Alan Tobin, Joe Bonner, David Gilroy, Yvonne Everard and Paddy Meade.
