Issues around road safety including speeding and “inadequate traffic calming” in Batterstown village were raised by Fianna Fail Cllr Caroline O’Reilly at a meeting of the Ratoath Municipal District of Meath County Council. Cllr O’Reilly asked the council to acknowledge the “urgent safety risks” in the village and asked it to allocate internal funding to commence road works on a phased basis. She said the situation was so urgent the council should not wait to get resources from government or other agencies but to provide funding itself.

Officials replied that the existing traffic calming in Batterstown and adjacent to Rathregan National School included a ramp both sides of the school and a press button pedestrian crossing on the Trim side of the school. In advance of the Batterstown Traffic Calming Scheme (subject to funding) an additional ramp would be provided on the Trim side of the village between the L-2215and L-22091 adjacent to public lighting. This would be done between four and six weeks.
