A retired Meath County Council planner has told an inquiry into whether former Councillor Tommy Reilly breached local government rules in relation to a planning application by his son that he had no recollection of the councillor attending a re-planning hearing into the proposed planning application.

The Standards in Public Office Commission is now in the second day of a two-day hearing into the matter. Retired planning official Pat Gallagher told the inquiry in a written submission about his recollection of the pre-planning meeting. The commission was told that Mr Gallagher’s recollection coincided with that of council official Ms Wendy Bagnall. The commission is now hearing evidence from Owen O’Shea who carried out a preliminary investigation into allegations that local government rules had been broken. More coverage to follow on the final day of the Sipo hearing including evidence of former Councillor Tommy Reilly.
