Two men were charged at a special sitting at Trim District Court yesterday in connection with the large drugs seizure on the bank holiday Monday. They have been named as Gareth Ryan (38) and Darren Callaghan (40) both with Meath addresses.
An estimated €8.5m worth of suspected cocaine and cannabis was seized as part of an intelligence-led investigation carried out under ‘Operation Tara’. Led by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, a vehicle was intercepted in the Meath area yesterday, followed by a number of searches of locations in Meath and Louth. the unit had being monitoring activities at a storage unit at Woodcockstown, Drumree in the county. The two men charged have being remanded to Cloverhill prison.
Operation Tara is an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy, which was launched by the Garda Commissioner in July 2021. The goal of Operation Tara is to protect communities from the scourge of illegal drugs and to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels – international, national, local – involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled.
