“Where we are headed” was the theme of a presentation delivered to councillors at the Trim Municipal District meeting last week by members of Trim Women’s Shed. Making the presentation were Caroline Smith chairwoman of the shed, Mags McGivern co-chair, and Barbara Keane. Attracta Doran who is a member of the Shed spoke about the women’s work with Prosper Meath and the need for extended garden space beside the Sensory Garden.

They told the Trim councillors that they were building a stronger future for women and the community by becoming a recognised voice for women’s wellbeing and equity; expanding the shed to reach more communities; launching new programmes in health, life skills and creativity; collaborating with local charities for greater impact and creating sustainable income through fundraising.

The Women’s Shed members also delivered their “shopping list” to the council. They said that in order to enhance their impact they needed a safe, accessible and secure place for their programmes and as a welcoming hub; grants and financial support with ongoing and project-based funding to sustain and grow their services; and strategic collaboration through continued partnership and a recognition of the women’s shed as a vital contributor to the community’s wellbeing.

Although the women’s shed is winding down for the Summer they will be back in action in September with registration for new and old members and a schedule of activities for everyone.
