A former Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council who appeared at Trim Circuit Court today has pleaded guilty to theft from a Co Meath-based charity. Sean McKiernan (43) with an address at Trinity Bungalow, Virginia Road, Bailieborough, Co Cavan had been charged with the theft of €172, 000 from Navan Mental Health in 2019 and 2020 entered a guilty plea to the theft of €5, 270 from the charity on 26th September 2019 and the theft of €800 from the charity on 6th April 2020. Judge John Martin put the case back to 21st October next for further consideration. He remanded the accused on continuing bail to that date.
