Fairyhouse Racecourse presents another quality Flat card on Wednesday evening, consisting of eight races and featuring the Group Three Stanerra Stakes. Read on for a full preview of and tips from the Fairyhouse card, courtesy of BoyleSports, who offer the latest Galway Festival odds

Beginning the evening’s action is a three-year-olds’ claiming race over a mile and two furlongs (4.00). There are only five runners, but this still looks quite a tight contest. Wonderfulwonderful has only ever failed to place within the top three once in five starts, and looks closer than ever to a win today. Spent All Me Money won his penultimate start, while the relatively unexposed Alice Monet looks likely to go much better when stepping up in trip today. Given three pounds by his rider, Spent All Me Money gets the end vote though, running for Jack Davison’s in-form stable.

Race two is a six-furlong two-year-old fillies’ maiden (4.30). Only three of the 15 runners have any previous form, so many of these are unknown quantities. Paddy Twomey’s Dreamy Skies has the best record of the few with such, third of six on debut, and is entitled to improve for that. Ger Lyons’ Smexy looks a very interesting prospect, having been a very expensive purchase with a solid pedigree, and comes from a stable doing extremely well with their two-year-olds this term. Aidan O’Brien’s Precise is the one she probably has to contend with.

Staying with the two-year-olds, the next race is a six-furlong maiden for colts and geldings (5.00). Five of the 10 runners have been seen racing before, but none have showed much promise as of yet, so it may pay to look for the best quality debutant. In this context, that may prove to be Aidan O’Brien’s second string; Stock Market, who is a half brother to the precocious and fast Hotazhell, winner of the Futurity Stakes last year. Coolmore’s first string in this race, Charles Fort, appears to be the main attraction, but might be better suited to a longer distance later in the season.

Next is a rated race run over a mile and three quarters (5.30). With only seven runners, this looks to be quite an open race. Granite Bay made a very promising seasonal reappearance at Navan last month, fourth of 21, and can build on that today. The capable Baltic Bird reverts to the Flat, still fit from a successful National Hunt campaign, so should have a good chance. Londonofficecallin’s story is similar, having won his last Flat start in October and run well over obstacles since. He gets the final vote in this case.

The evening’s feature race follows; the Group Three Stanerra Stakes over a mile and six furlongs (6.00). The JP McManus-owned Goodie Two Shoes seeks a hat-trick, having won her last two starts by a combined seven and a half lengths. She steps up in class here but looks able to act, provided she can overcome a tricky draw. It may be safer to opt for Enfranchise, a proven mare at this level who has the innermost draw and the conditions she prefers.

Another maiden is next for horses aged three and older, run over seven furlongs (6.30). With 18 runners and numerous newcomers amongst them, this could be anyone’s race, although Shakazia is certainly the best of those we have already seen. The Kodiac filly has only been narrowly beaten on her last two starts and this company may be easier, but she is awkwardly drawn in 14. Gavin Cromwell’s Battle Borne may have an easier start from stall eight.

Our penultimate race is a seven-furlong handicap with six runners (7.00). Mark Fahey’s I Bid You Ajou attempts to add another winning leg onto a Fairyhouse hat-trick and steps up from six furlongs here, while Facethepuckout was also a winner last time out, over a mile at Limerick. Having been less harshly penalised than I Bid You Ajou, he looks the more likely to win again of the two.

The finale is another seven-furlong handicap (7.30). Darkdeserthighway returns for 2025 hanging slipped down a couple of pounds from her last appearance and could go well, while Sam Coen gives Clonmacash a handy seven pounds and the pair could produce a result here today.
