Independent Cllr Alan Lawes has called on Meath County Council to ensure that all emergency accommodation facilities have a current fire certificate. He raised the issue at a meeting of the council this week. He told the council that a similar issue had been raised by Cllrs Ronan Moor and Alan Tobin.
He asked that the council put in minimum standards in regard to fire certificates. Council officials replied that a minimum standard for emergency accommodation was currently being prepared and if agreed and where applicable, the need for a valid fire certificate can be included in the minimum criteria. It is anticipated that the draft document will be presented at the next meeting of the housing and integration strategic policy committee of the council.
