Well known journalist and former property editor of the Irish Times, Jack FAGAN has left in an  estate valued at over 4 1/2 million euros. Originally from Navan and made his early career as a  journalist was with local provincial  newspaper’s at the Meath Chronicle and the  Drogheda independent. Jack FAGAN went on to be a successful journalist with the Irish Times.  Indeed was instrumental and development it’s very popular property section.

It was always informative accurate and profiled the property scene around the country the ups and the downs, the trends and was invaluable to all involved in the property market. Jack FAGAN was well known to many of the property owners and developers. He would pride himself on breaking news on property developments around the country.

He had a broad insight in property that many potential investors would have read in his articles and invested, and maybe  a few who steered away over the years on his insights. He was always welcoming and helped when he could. He passed away at the age of 85 when he died last September having spent his whole career in journalism and the last 60 years of that time with the Irish Times.

As a young man, he like many of his generation, played Gaelic football and had a distinction of playing on the 1957  Meath Minor Gaelic team that that beath Armagh. He played a rightful back for me that day. Meath won comfortably  3-9 to 0-4.

In recent weeks another former GAA player of the 1960s John (Jack) FAGAN who who also played with Meath in the 60’s  passed away after a long illness. John FAGAN, a chartered accountant was involved with Fagan Lynch Donnellan Accountants and formally with Oliver Freaney Chartered Accountants. Oliver Freaney was also a distinguished  Dublin footballer in the 50s when he played with Dublin.
