Courageous councillor has vowed to stand up to ‘drug dealing thugs’ after he was pelted with fireworks at Halloween and had a brick thrown through the front window of his house last night. Alan Lawes an Independent member of Meath County Council also received menacing phone calls in between the two incidents,

He recalled “On Halloween night a group of thugs tried to light a bonfire in Johnstown Peoples Park. I received a call from frightened residents in Millbrook and responded. I found a large group of mostly teenagers gathered in the park starting a huge blaze near residential apartments in Millbrook estate.

”I proceeded to pull pallets off the fire and came under attack by the youths. They threw missiles and aimed fireworks at me as I tried to put out the fire. I rang 999 and asked for the Fire Service and Gardai as I was still under attack.

The damage caused to Cllr Lawes home.

Thankfully very shortly after the Fire Brigade arrived and the youths dispersed. After that they lit more bonfires and one set a tree alight endangering residents homes in Millbrook. Only for the quick response of the Fire Brigade lives could have been lost.

Since then I have received threatening phone calls saying they were coming for my house next. Then, the attack on my home happened last night,  just after 10pm. My daughter, Amy, woke up to a load crash after a brick was thrown through our front window. One of my neighbours rushed out and saw a man in a light coloured jacket running away and jumping over the fence onto Metges Road. I have reported this incident to Gardai.

It would be helpful to me and the Gardai if anyone around Boyne View and Millbrook would check their door cameras footage in and around 10pm. And if people driving along Metges Road at the same time could  you check their  dash cams, as he ran off along Metges Road.

I will continue to support my community, in standing up to these thugs and criminals, and I will continue to expose their anti social behaviour and drug dealing in the area where I live.”
