With the club championships due to start in a fortnight it appears the infamous ‘ban’ mentality still lives on in certain areas. Meath Live has been made aware of a group text sent to all squad members of one of the JFC favourites, advising them that if they continue to play soccer, they will not be considered for selection on their clubs first team.
Whoever sent the message must be unaware that rule 29 the so called ‘ban’ rule prohibiting GAA members from participating in or watching foreign games was scrapped in 1971. However, it seems that this club is so hell bent on winning the JFC they are practising their own version.
One source told us, ‘To say lads were shocked to get the text is putting it mildly, especially as most of them only play Gaelic football anyway, and as a rule people respond better to being asked not to do something than been told not to do it’
We have chosen not to name the club but we’ll keep a keen eye on their progress.
