The strong favourite, Mairead McGuinness, to take over the Presidency from Micheal D Higgins has today announced her decision to withdraw from the forthcoming presidential elections. Citing a health issue, she has issued a statement and ask for privacy at this time. This will come as a shock to many within Fine Gael.
All polls were showing her to be the most likely to win in November. The statement issued on social media reads;
