Hundreds of mourners turned out in the village of Drumconrath for the funeral of 23-year-old Alan McCluskey who lost his life along with Chloe McGee, his girlfriend, and three other friends in the road tragedy in Louth last weekend. Convoys of tractors and cars met at the Church at St Peter and Paul Church, joining up with hundreds of other people in a show of solidarity with the family. Members of Drumconrath GFC walked alongside the funeral cortege as it arrived for the funeral. President Connolly was among the crowds sympathising with family members.
Alan’s sister Sharon said that her brother “took the best parts with him” after his death. She said “The youngest, the miracle boy, whose hands once small and dainty, now held all our hearts and kept the rhythm of our family’s heartbreak without ever trying.

Cllr Gallagher spoke highly of the late Alan McCluskey , his family, friends and Chloe.
Local councillor in Drumconrath and a close neighbour told Meath Live in the aftermath of the tragedy ”Alan was a great hard working young man. He was never without his work snickers except for Sunday mornings when he would regularly attend Mass in Drumconrath. He was gifted at hydraulics and could turn his hand to any problem that was thrown his way on the farm. He was also a very approachable young man, he could talk to anyone, a think that you don’t see as much in people these days. The McCluskey’s are a close knit, friendly hard working family, and Alan was testament to this. His friends whom we lost were of a similar character also, his best friend Dylan, his girlfriend Chloe, Shay and Chloe, all great young people that will never be forgotten by the community here.
