A 27-year-old man who was found intoxicated in a Navan residential area aimed a racial insult at one of the Gardai who attended the scene, Trim District Court was told. Nathan Casserly, Delhurt Lane, Ongar Park, Dublin faced a number of charges including threatening, insulting and abusive behaviour. The court heard that on 11th July last Gardai were called to the Woodlands estate in Navan where they found defendant intoxicated, stumbling around, and slurring his words. He became aggressive with Gardai and called one of them “a foreign Paki cxxt ”. He had had to be arrested.

He was also charged with theft of goods from Centra, Blackcastle on 27 th September last. The goods were worth €56.48 and were not recovered. He was also charged with stealing alcohol worth €33.40 from another store and also with damaging a Garda cell by smearing excrement on it.

The court was told that defendant had a number of previous convictions including those for possession of drugs, obstruction of Gardai, threatening behaviour, criminal damage, possession of drugs for sale or supply, and damaging property. Solicitor Ciara Burke told the court her client had been addicted to drugs since he was 16 years old. Judge Catherine Hayden put the case back to a future court for further consideration.
