Judge Eirinn McKiernan explained the only reason for suspending a jail sentence on a 33 year-old woman was on account of the passage of time. Christina Joyce with an address at Park Street, Clongriffin, Dublin pleaded guilty to two offences of shoplifting from Tesco in Ashbourne on dates in 2021 and 2022.

One May 15 2021 with another female she entered the supermarket and stole alcohol, including a bottle of Bacardi and pink gin, along with a face mark. On the second date the defendant stole €298 worth of groceries. Court Presenter Sergeant Alan Ratcliffe said she was identified by a vehicle registration plate.

The Sergeant said the defendant had over 20 previous convictions for offences including thefts. Barrister Paul Noctor said that the defendant committed the offences in the midst of her addiction which was why essentially she resorted to stealing Judge McKiernan imposed a four month sentence on the defendant, and suspended it for 18 months.
