Report Paul Murphy

Balrath Cross has been described as “dangerous” by a Sinn Fein councillor at a meeting of Meath County Council. Helen Meyer sought an update on suggested improvements to the junction. She also asked for an update on improvements around St Francis School. The councillor also asked for numbers of bus stops planned. She also made reference to the planned new report at Bremore near Balbriggan and sought an update from officials.

SF Cllr Eddie Fennessy drew attention to the fact that there were 32 vacant council houses in Navan and asked f there was a plan to “speedup” delivery of those back into the housing stock. He also said there was a drop-off in approved housing projects in the county and asked if there would be a pick- up in approved housing projects over the next couple of years.

Fine Gael Cllr Maria Murphy said that when planning permission was granted for St Peter’s Church of Ireland school within Dunboyne Castle “only a courtesy pedestrian crossing” was approved outside the school. She said she had been fighting for an upgrade since. That upgrade had been approved but the work was being held up by ESB infrastructure works. Cllr Murphy asked for it to be included in the pedestrian crossings section of the chief executive’s report on each monthly agenda so that she could keep track of it.

Fine Gael Cllr Alan Tobin asked I there were any plans to upgrade the road from Ashbourne to Ratoath. There was an increased frequency of use of the road because of the increase in population. “It’s not possible to walk or cycle between Ashbourne and Ratoath”.
