Meath County Council is “doing extremely well” on the building of social housing, an independent councillor has told a meeting of the county council. Nick Killian said that the housing department was working hard to provide as many houses as they can yet there had been 173 new applications for social housing since the council’s last meeting in July, 57 of which had been approved.
The numbers weren’t going down, the councillor said. He also asked how land for housing in Ashbourne could be “brought forward”. There were 280 valid housing commencement notices from January to July this year. That compared with 560 for the same period last year. There had been 92 commencement s this year for one-off houses this year to July.
