Report Paul Murphy
A notice of motion on the Palestine issue submitted by Independent Cllr Alan Lawes is set to be debated at a special meeting of Meath County Council tomorrow, Tuesday 9 th September. The meeting to be held at Buvinda House was convened following a request from Cllr Lawes under Section 140 (5) of the Local Government Act 2001 (as amended).

The councillor’s motion reads “I am calling on Meath County Council to consider all lawful sanctions it can take against the apartheid
state of Israel in order to put pressure on them to stop the Genocide and forced starvation of the Palestinian people.”

At a meeting of the county council earlier this month a move by Cllr Lawes to get the council to remove all Coca-Cola products from its premises “because of the genocide in Palestine” failed to get overall support of the council, being defeated by 18 votes to 12.
