The M2 hare has gone missing! Where is the hare? That was the question Independent Cllr Joe Bonner asked at the June meeting of Ashbourne Municipal District this week. ”It’s a complete mystery,” he says. The hare art work was commissioned for the M2 motorway back in 2012 at a cost of €64,00o at the time but ”it’s not there!” said Bonner, adding “A lot of money was spent on it and we need to check where it’s gone”. Cllr Conor Tormey quipped that it might have been covered up by the growth of grass and trees. The project was funded by NRA in a joint commission with Meath and Fingal councils at the time.
On a different note councillors are annoyed at Irish Water. Cllr Bonner wants officials from Irish Water to come to the municipal meeting and explain the shortcomings in its service. A council official said that a workshop for councillors had been held last year and perhaps the same could be done this year. However, he said they needed to come to us and update us specifically about the Ashbourne district.
Cllr Alan Tobin also reminded members that in the previous county development plan that water was not an issue and that there was “plenty of water” but he said that that was now not the case and “if we can’t resolve the issue with Irish Water it will affect the development of the town”. “If we don’t get the infrastructure right we are going to get it in the neck”, he said.
