A 36-year-old man charge with the theft of €118,343 owned by a woman has been sent forward for trial to Trim Circuit Court. Jason McGovern, Park Lane, Portarlington is charged with the offence on numerous dates between 1st June 2022 and 31st March 2024 at various locations within the State.

He appeared before Trim District Court where Detective Garda Robert Smith said he had served the accused with a book of evidence in the case. The Garda said that the Director of Public Prosecutions had consented to the accused being sent forward for trial or for sentence on a signed plea of guilty.

The accused was cautioned that if he intended to reply on alibi as a defence he must notify the State within 14 days. Judge Eirinn McKiernan remanded the accused on bail to the sitting of the circuit court in Trim on 21 st October next. She also assigned a solicitor and barrister to the case under the Free Legal Aid Scheme.
