All 136 boxes now tallied and this is how the candidates are faring – Catherine Connolly 53%, Jim Gavin 7%, Heather Humphreys 25%, Spoiled Votes 16%.

The picture is quite clear as both Meath East and Meath West reflect the national view. There will probably be one count and one count only if the tallymen have it right and they generally do. Here in Meath West it was the Fine Gael and Sinn Fein tallymen (pictured above with Navan based Cllr Eddie Fennessy. There was no sign of Fianna Fail tallymen to lend a hand such it appears is the apathy with Jim Gavin’s exit.

In certain parts of the country the story of this election will be the percentage of spoilt votes which will send a strong message to the political establishment, the people of Ireland have spoken.
