Report Paul Murphy
A five and a half hour Garda siege of a premises in central Navan ended early this afternoon in the arrest of a teenager.
The 17year-old male had barricaded himself in a premises off Flower Hill, alleging that he had a weapon. The siege took place at Blackcastle Lodge and the area was cordoned off shortly after 9am. Gardai, including members of the force’s Armed Response Unit entered the area and taped off the area where the incident was taking place. Shortly after 2pm the teenager surrendered to Gardai and the siege was called off. He was detained under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act, 20012. Investigations into the incident are continuing.
