A 30-year-old driver who has nine previous convictions for driving without insurance and 11 active disqualifications has been jailed after pleading guilty to a further driving offence. Tyrone Byrne of Demesne Road, Dundalk was convicted at Trim District Court of driving without insurance or driving licence e at the N52 Carlanstown, Kells on 17 th October last. The court was told that he had 66 previous convictions in total and had been disqualified from driving for periods ranging from four years to 10 years from 2016 to the present. Defending solicitor Dermot Monahan said his client had been addicted to heroin since he was 14 years old but had been clean for the last 17 months. He was attending college three nights a week. He was cooperative and polite to the Gardai when he was stopped, the solicitor said. Judge Derek Cooney said the defendant had “an appalling record”. He imposed a four-month prison sentence and a 10-year driving ban. Defendant was one of 12 people before the court for driving without insurance.
