A 69 year-old pensioner appeared charged with offences of sexual assault and causing a child to watch pornography at Trim District Court on Thursday. He is charged with two counts of sexual assault and a third of causing a child to watch pornography. The offences are alleged to have occurred between April 1 and September 1 2023 at a location in Meath. The accused was arrested that day for the purpose of charge and brought before Judge Eirinn McKiernan.
The arresting Garda said that the accused denied the charges. The Director of Public Prosecutions has directed that the charges be dealt with on indictment and the accused sent forward to the Circuit Criminal Court for trial or for sentence on a signed plea.
Judge McKiernan set bail in the sum of €200, subject to a number conditions that include that the accused have no contact whatsoever with the injured party, and he is not to apply for new travel documents.
The Judge remanded him on bail to the sitting on February 26 next to enable the preparation and service of the book of evidence. Restrictions were placed on the reporting of the case.
