Independent TD Gillian Toole has asked Lidl to explain its parking policies at its Dunshaughlin store after complaints about vehicles being clamped in its car park. The TD said that a woman in her 80s whose car was clamped had to stand out in the cold waiting for the clamper release team to turn up.

Ms Toole said that she had been contacted by constituents with complaints about the issue. She said that the woman in her 80s had “only” been parked for 30 minutes. When the clamper arrived he told the woman she was “parked over two spaces”. She stood outside despite store staff offering her tea inside.

The Dail deputy said that cobblelock defined parking spaces and perhaps paint should be used to outline spaces. She asked “Why was she and other customers clamped when they parked under 90 minutes? And she called for an urgent review of the policy. Lidl has been contacted.
