A 47 year-old man from Kells was brought before Trim District Court on Tuesday charged in connection with a series of robberies and attempted robberies in Meath and Kildare the previous week at filling stations and stores. Offensive weapons were allegedly produced including a knife and wheel brace and a vehicle was filled with fuel that was not paid for and drove off.

Shane O’Rourke of Oristown, Kells was charged on Tuesday at Ashbourne Garda Station. Three Gardai gave evidence before the court, and in reply the defendant said sorry to charges.

Bail was objected to by Garda on a number of grounds including the seriousness of the charges. Judge Eirinn McKiernan refused bail. She remanded the defendant to the sitting of the court on Tuesday next, February 3 when he is to appear by video link. She put the case back for the Director of Public Prosecutions to provide directions.
