Two Romanian nationals pleaded guilty to a shoplifting offence on Christmas Eve last at Tesco in Navan. Elisei Buceana (32) and Geneza Radu both of Boyne View, Navan were stated to have acted in concert in the theft of €68 worth of alcohol when they appeared before Trim District Court on Tuesday.

They each handed over €100 in respect of compensation. The stolen property was recovered, Sergeant Alan Ratcliffe said. The Sergeant recalled that the pair was detained at the scene. Buceana had 31 previous convictions, one for theft. Radu had a clear record, the Sergeant outlined. Barrister, Paul Noctor who appeared for both defendants, said that Buceana was the father of seven children with an eight on the way. He apologized for his actions, and was willing to pay compensation, having €100 with him. The other defendant also had a similar sum in court.

Judge Michael Connellan convicted and fined Buceana €400. He directed in Radu’s case that the €100 go to charity, and applied the probation act. He warned her it was her “first and last chance.”
