The teenager killed in a road traffic incident on the Slane Road, Navan on Saturday night has been named locally as Mia Lily Keogh O’Keeffe. She was the seventh person to die on Irish roads in the past weekend. The girl, who was from Navan, was walking her dog on the Slane Road in the town at 8.20pm and was crossing a pedestrian crossing when she was struck by a vehicle which failed to remain at the scene. Gardai and emergency services attended the scene and the girl was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital where she was subsequently declared deceased.

Mia Lily was a pupil at Loreto College in Navan. The Mayor of Navan Cllr Padraig Fitzsimons, pictured above, speaking on his own behalf and all Navan Municipal District councillors extended his deepest sympathy to Mia Lily’s extended family. He said the incident had shocked and saddened everyone in Navan. “It is such an awful tragedy for her family”, he said.

A man in his 20s has been arrested and was later released. A file on the incident is being prepared and will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
