A Romanian man who failed to notify Gardai about a certain conviction in his home country has appeared in a local court. Costin Alexandru Chiribute with an address at St Benildus Villas, Navan pleased guilty to a charge that on 13 th February this year within the State, being a person to whom Part 2 of the Sex Offenders Act 2001 applied, failed without reasonable excuse to notify An Garda Siochana within the three-day timeframe, of his name, address and date of birth. Defending solicitor Maurice Regan said the conviction in the defendant’s country was a historic one. He was married with three children and ran his own business.
Prosecuting Garda Sergeant Mark Looby told Trim District Court that defendant wasn’t aware of his responsibility to inform Gardai about the conviction and the matter had only come to attention through Interpol in the previous week. The defendant travelled to Ireland in 2010. He was living in Navan and had not come to the attention of Gardai. Judge Eirinn McKiernan noted the defendant’s circumstances and he fact that he was working and imposed a €300 fine on him.
