Sinn Féin TD for Meath West, Johnny Guirke, alongside Peace Commissioner Diego Keegan, is encouraging residents of Johnstown and the wider Navan area to take part in the public consultation on the proposed development of Dunville Community Park. Teachta Guirke said:“Residents of Johnstown have waited decades for meaningful investment in recreational facilities for children, families, and the wider community. The proposed plans from Meath County Council, which include a café, public toilets, play areas, a sensory garden, a 5-a-side pitch, a 3×3 basketball court and other amenities, are a very welcome step forward.

“This is a positive and ambitious plan that has the potential to transform local amenities and create a vibrant, inclusive space for people of all ages. It reflects real progress for Johnstown and demonstrates what can be achieved when investment is directed towards community needs.

“People in Johnstown have waited long enough for proper recreational infrastructure. Although I acknowledge the level of thought that has gone into this proposal, it is essential that the final plan fully reflects the needs of a growing community. That is why I am strongly encouraging residents to engage with the consultation process, make their voices heard, and submit their views to Meath County Council.”

Johnny Guirke encouraging local residents in Johnstown to engage on the consultation now open to  29th May.

Peace Commissioner Diego Keegan said:  “I broadly welcome the proposed Dunville Community Park plan brought forward by Meath County Council. It offers a range of amenities that will serve the needs of many in the local area.

“As someone who grew up close to the area, the idea of a public park in Johnstown with facilities such as a 5-a-side pitch and a 3×3 basketball court would have been unheard of. The inclusion of a café and a sensory garden is particularly positive, as it ensures that children with additional needs are also catered for and can meaningfully enjoy the space.

“If this development is approved, I am confident it will be widely welcomed by the local community. At present, Johnstown lacks a dedicated public park, and this proposal represents an important first step towards addressing that gap, particularly given the area’s rapidly growing population and future infrastructure needs.

“I fully support Johnny Guirke TD in encouraging residents to engage with the consultation process. It is essential that the final plan reflects the views and needs of the community it is intended to serve.”
