In the aftermath of the fire that broke out in the home of Conal and Evelyn Quinn near Ashbourne that saw the house extensively damaged, there was something amazing when they got to go back into the house. In one bedroom, their prized possession of a signed shirt of the Donegal  winning team survived without any damage done to it and most of the room.

It was ”some sort of miracle”  that a bedroom escaped damage from fire that has completely destroyed and gutted the rest of the house. There was  holy water and angels on the windowsill.  Three teams of Fire Brigands attended the blaze at the house on the old N2 just south of Ashbourne on Monday evening.

The couple now face the daunting task of trying to get themselves and the house back to move into. Unfortunately they had no insurance and local community and friends have come together to offer help and support. They spoke to Cllr Joe Bonner to help them as much as he can and suggested a GoFundMe page to help with finances.

All have strong links to Donegal and his family and Evelyn hail from north Donegal with his mum from Buncrana and dad from Cardonagh, both now passed. They moved to the house in 1987 and have always been involved  in the community in Ashbourne.  They raised two children Enya and Martin who played for the local club and underage for the county.  Martin was there helping tidy up the mess and helping to get things organised. There were also a number of neighbour’s and friends that are all helping.
