Praxis Care, a social care charity supporting people with learning disabilities, autism, mental ill health and dementia across Ireland and the UK, has recognised Caffrey’s Furniture in Navan for its commitment to inclusive employment. The award forms part of Praxis Care’s Community Champion programme, launched in 2025 to celebrate businesses and organisations that create meaningful opportunities for people to participate fully in community life.

Caffery’s Furniture was given the award for its ongoing support of Ronan Connolly, who also receives support from Praxis Care. Since joining the Navan-based business in 2024, Ronan has become a valued member of the team, developing new skills, building confidence and taking on a range of responsibilities cross the store.

Employment remains a significant challenge for many people with disabilities. In Ireland, the employment rate for disabled people stands at 32.6%, one of the lowest in Europe, while people with intellectual disabilities continue to face some of the greatest barriers to accessing meaningful employment.

Ronan’s experience demonstrates the positive impact inclusive employers can have in creating opportunities, fostering independence and building confidence Caffrey’s was nominated by Ronan’s support worker David Geraghty who has supported him for more than five years and has witnessed first-hand the positive impact employment has had on his life and wellbeing.

David said: “Ronan has experienced a complete turnaround, and a significant part of this progress can be attributed to his role at Caffrey’s. He genuinely enjoys going to work, engaging with his colleagues, and has even developed the confidence to interact with members of the public. I have seen his independence grow significantly, and it has been a pleasure to witness how far he has come and the positive impact this opportunity has had on his life.”

Tommy Brady, Manager at Caffrey’s shared: “Since Ronan started 16 months ago, we have all got to know and have grown very fond of him. We all love to see him coming in; he brightens up the day and we always have a great laugh – he’s a very witty character. We are delighted to be acknowledged as one of Praxis Care’s Champion Award winners.”
