The racing looks set to be competitive at Navan on Thursday afternoon, with eight races to enjoy; six handicaps and two maidens. Read on for a preview of and tips for the Navan card, brought to you by BOYLE Sports, who have all the horse racing odds.
We begin with a six-furlong nursery handicap (13.44). There are just eight runners here, of which one is already a winner; Howlin Wolf, who won last time at the Curragh. He has risen significantly in the weights as a result, therefore Stephen Thorne’s Someday Somwhere, who is making his handicap debut after some good performances in maiden company, might be the one. Supreme Lord is drawn beside her and should pick up a place.
Next is a six-furlong handicap (14.14). Sovereign Cry is given weight by his claiming rider and seems to like firmer ground like this, so he has a real chance in first-time cheekpieces. By The Lake has been going well on the all-weather and is on an attractive mark, but might not like the firmer going here. All The Girls should make a good show of herself and can place.
Race three is a two-year-olds’ maiden run over five furlongs (14.44). Rollin’onariver and Jungle Tina are the newcomers here, but neither trainer are known for their two-year-olds and it’s easy to look elsewhere. Better Yet was good on debut and should go better up in trip, while Atlantic Bridge is a big danger. Both should like this left-handed track, and Better Yet has the best draw.
A mile two-year-olds’ claiming maiden is next (15.14). Just one newcomer here; Ferronniere, a gelding by Ten Sovereigns. Jezzie Bea has been showing some promise lately and could do well for the step up in trip, while Leadlight is appealing after a fair run at Goodwood last time and is in first-time cheekpieces with a nice innermost draw.
The first division of a mile handicap is next (15.44). Alto Sax’s most recent form figure looks worse than the run was, so he could be involved here, but Bill Silvers is most attractive now four pounds lower than last time out at Gowran Park. He has a handy seven pounds from his rider here.
In the second division (16.15), course and distance winner Comfort Line might be worth considering for a place, while Ella’s Gold is a nice, consistent sort who could recapture better form here. Mythical Rock can act at this mark, but Sherekiya is the easiest to make a case for. Triumph might have an each-way chance.
Second to last is a three-year-olds’ handicap run over a mile and six furlongs (16.49). Sunrush offered some encouragement last time and has weight given by his rider here, but might prefer more give in the ground. Nando Lily steps significantly up in trip for her handicap debut, which must be noted, while Chapel Island has a chance on paper, but must overcome a wide draw.
Last of all is another handicap over the same trip (17.24). With 23 runners in a low-grade affair, this is a very hard race to pick from. Deluca Chop should have a chance but might not like the ground, while Eastern Win looks promising with seven pounds in hand from Sadbh Tormey. Kevin The Great might be worth thinking about, while Makaiah should get involved from stall six.
