Navan regulars are having a busy week, as this is the track’s second race meeting in the space of four days. This time, we have eight races to enjoy; three maidens and five handicaps. Read on for a preview of and tips for the Navan card from BetBrothers.
We kick off with a six-furlong fillies maiden (13.30). With a number of newcomers in the mix, this could go any way, but the best existing form is provided by Noel Meade’s Roeillaun, who has placed twice from four starts and has improved. Lady’s Court showed some promise on the all-weather on debut and should come on for the run, and is also given seven pounds by her rider this time.
A six-furlong nursery handicap follows (14.00). Tradewinds is a consistent colt who could improve for the application of blinkers here, while Supreme Lord proved to be at his best over this trip last time over course and distance. Lars Soldier is competitive on this mark while Howlin’ Wolf might be able to pick up a place here after a solid run here last time.
The third race is a five-furlong handicap (14.35). Monastere has been in generally good form this year and might have another opportunity here under five-pound claimer Jack Cleary, while Jackandthefox could get into the mix this time, bringing some positive recent form figures. Irish Rumour went close last time at the Curragh and is on the same mark here, which is promising.
A five-furlong handicap is next (15.10). Thunderbear makes a start for new connections today, having taken his last owner to some big days. This should be much easier for him, and he has first-time cheekpieces to help him along. Namiid is a reliable sort who should be able to win on this mark, though, and is easier to make a case for.
Race five is a mile fillies’ maiden (15.45). Flower Forest is a nicely-bred filly who should have more in the locker, but she hasn’t shown enough to be confident of here. Elmakaya has been a touch frustrating to follow so far, but first-time cheekpieces might help today. Divine Legend ought to enter calculations, while My Shayla was very good last time and will have fewer excuses this time around.
Then we have the first division of a 10-furlong handicap (16.20). Cause I Like You has hit the frame on her latest start and should be capable of getting involved again this time, but Kingcharles looks a touch more likely. This colt wasn’t beaten too far at this track last time and may benefit from the step up in trip here. Mare Crisium makes equal appeal, though.
In the second division (16.55), there is a good spread of decent form on show and there are a few options. Nibras Rainbow tends to keep consistent but might be too high in the weights on this occasion. Millhone is in first-time blinkers which could help end her case of seconditis, while He Knows When is intriguing, returning to action still an entire horse, having been off since 2024.
Last of all is a 10-furlong maiden (17.30). There are six debutants here, so the race could go any way, but there is some good existing form and it makes sense to side with a more experienced horse. Royal Bones improved on his debut last time and could factor here, while Handani is better proven over this trip and should be the one to beat. Deetee should be taken seriously too.
