On a wet and miserable Thursday yesterday a large and steady flow of people thronged the Ardboyne Hotel in Navan. When a representative of Meath Live arrived the car parks were jammed, such was the interest in the now annual event. As theĀ  Careers Expo suggests it is a opportunity to see what jobs are available in Meath and what prospects are like for students planning their careers into the future. There was also the opportunity for those travelling on the daily commutes to see what’s on their doorsteps and maybe plan to take up a role closer to home.

There were businesses from all over the county on hand to give an insight to those attending. Coupled in the mix there wereĀ  educational institutions were alsoĀ  represented to outline potential paths to follow for job opportunities. Meath Live spoke to a number of exhibitors to get a handle onĀ  reaction to the expo.

Already well established in Dublin, David Gorey, will bring his local knowledge of the county to help build the business in Meath. Some of you will know David from The Stackhouse Restaurant in Trim, were he worked along with family members in helping to market the very successful business when it launched over 13 years ago.

 

Careered Guidance Counsellors Aoife O’Dwyer and Derek Ball representing Dunboyne College Of Further Education and Training. They told Meath Live how last year over 5000 applications sought 1,400 positions on offer. The success of the college in the intervening years has proved that Dunboyne College offer a clear route to further educationĀ  with over 90% of students going onto third level education and attaining their respective degrees or taking up apprenticeships or jobs. The students in the main come from, Dublin West, Meath and Kildare and has proved to parents and students the validity now of the PLC courses.

Meanwhile Helen was in relaxed form in her own county enjoying the Expo. When asked by Meath Live for her reaction to feedback from the recently announced Budget, she said she accepted the cost of living crisis was impacting families but as a government they had to be prudent and plan tp give as much help as possible but the control the economy given the outside influences of the international conflicts. When asked could she see an end to the conflict, she accepted it was outside the governments remit, but they would do all we can as a country to help find resolutions with felloe EU members.

Cllr John Duffy (FG) arrived the Expo to show his support at the event. He was delighted to see so many young people at the event. It is a great opportunity to see what opportunities are in Meath. As a councillor in Navan,Ā  Meath Live asked him about the town and what was was happening. He said he was very busy, ” At the minute we have a whole extension of the new county development plan to bring us up to 2030 before we start the new 10 year plan. With the planned Navan MD meeting scheduled for next Wednesday that may not go ahead with the planned civil service strike.
