A 42-year-old Polish man has appeared in court in Trim charged in connection with the death in a road accident in which an 80-year-old cyclist died in Co Meath on 12th September last.
He is Piotr Broniarczyk, Baranoqo, Rubinowa 5, 62 081 Przcmiero, Poland was charged that having been involved in an injury to Mr Edward McLoughlin he failed to offer assistance to him.
He was also charged with a hit-and-run offence, failed to remain at the scene of an accident and failure to report an accident to Gardai. Garda Sergeant Eoin Treacy gave evidence of having arrested the accused yesterday Wednesday evening.
The accused made no reply when charged. Solicitor Niall Walsh of Power Connolly solicitors said that his client worked for a courier company operating between Ireland and Poland.
Judge Eirinn McKiernan remanded accused in custody to Trim District Court on 23rd September and gave consent to bail in his own bail of €200 and also an independent surety offering €10, 000 in cash. The accused was directed to sign on once a month at Trim Garda Station.
