The Sinn Féin TD for Meath East Darren O’Rourke has called on the government to ‘move heaven and earth’ to ensure Katie Taylors homecoming fight with Amanda Serrano takes place in Croke Park.

It emerged last night that fight promoter Eddie Hearn had revealed the cost of staging the bout in Croke Park would be three times more than if they fought in Wembley stadium due mainly to the GAA’s rental demands.

It is now to be held in the 3Arena which has a capacity if just 9000 compared to the 80,ooo that Croke Park can hold.
And O’Rourke is adamant the government should step in to ensure the larger venue gets the fight.
His tweet, (below), calls on those in power to step in

Government should move heaven and earth to deliver Croke Park for Katie Taylor. 80,000 cheering fans – celebrating her achievements and everything she has done for sport, for Irish sport and for Ireland – is the least Katie deserves.
